Sokoke Cats - Care

Sokoke cats require very little grooming to keep the coat in a good condition. The short dense coat needs no brushing and bathing. Sokoke cats shed very little. These cats prefer sand bathing to keep the coat clean. To keep the mental health of the cats in balance, stroke their fur and pet them as often as they ask you to pay attention to them.

All cats usually keep their claws and teeth in good shape, but kittens may have sharp little claws or pointed hooks on their claws. Some veterinarians will clip these off when they vaccinate your kitten. Normally, it isn't recommended to trim your cat's claws because it could influence its ability to move and frustrate the cat. Older cats require teeth brushing, because decaying teeth could lead a cat to nutritional disorders and even starvation.

Sokoke Cats - Habits

In the wild Sokoke cats live in the trees of a rainforest and are perfectly adapted to such lifestyle. They are excellent swimmers and climbers. Some cats have webs between the toes for better swimming. The coat color of a Sokoke cat makes a perfect camouflage for living in the trees. These cats are said to feed on insects that are found in great numbers in tropical forests. The voice of Sokoke cats is very penetrating and modulated, especially in mating seasons.
